Nomad’s Land, Joshua Tree

Joshua TreeI spent the night in Joshua Tree National Park. I have so many words, I don’t even know where to begin.

Photos here. Photos specifically of Joshua Tree National Park here.

(I’m to drive to LA today. Scooter is giving me troubles; cutting out on me regularly. I don’t know that I’m going to make it. I’m debating what to do right now. If I leave now, I’ll be there no earlier than 7pm, probably closer to 9pm. Or 10pm.)

  1. Hey Scott – I’ve been following you clear across the country. There were some hairy moments, to say the least. Sally and I will be there around 3:30 tomorrow (Thursday) so we’ll see you then. Cheryl will already be there. Scooter probably just needs a nice rest! Here’s to vodka and cranberries!!

  2. Sorry to hear that Scooter is giving you problems. I’ll admit I was surprised that you were even able to make it out of Florida much less to the California state line but have been pulling fo you these several thousand miles in the meantime. Once you get Scooter looked at I’m curious – as I’m sure a lot of other people are – as to what ails it/her/him. (Have you assigned a gender to Scooter or do you feel that these ‘roles’ shouldn’t be forced? ;-) )

    Enjoy LAX and keep updating.

  3. I think your scooter is cutting out from the heat. I think that is the problem with long distance on 2 stroke air cooled engines, harder to keep cool in the dry weather.

I am enjoying your writing. I am looking at doing the same thing starting in august from up near Seattle to North Carolina. Probably on a Honda Ruckus or a Sym HD 125.

    Best of luck!

  4. Congrats Scott on making it to LA!! Heard the news from other BRATS. What an epic ride!! I would like to do a interview (telephone) for Examiner.com if you want; after the party and the drinks that surely will be bought for you :) If you want to do this drop me a not at keithbennett@att.net and we will set it up.

    Job well done!!

  5. I loved Joshua Tree – my pics are soon to come!
Wasn’t it otherworldly, but in a good way?

  6. Christian, yeah, I think that was primarily the problem. In Joshua Tree, I made a minor adjustment to the idle adjustment screw (was idling really high) and never had a problem after that.

Keith, thanks, yeah, I’ll contact you. I’m just getting reconnected to the world again after being out of touch with everyone for a while.

    Liz…
YES! The day I left I realized that it isn’t a place as much as a state of mind. I’m actually back there right now. It’s otherworldly, no doubt.
