I’ve self-published a book. I got the first copy today. I’m going to use the word needless here and say, “Needless to say, I was pretty excited.” Getting it in my hands, I was really happy. It’s taken two years to get to this moment. And, then, seeing it in print… perfect! So I’m making it available for purchase.
The book is Girls on a Bed. It is a photography book of nude art. Casual art. Fine art. Casual nude fine art. This is the introduction inside the book:
In early 2008, I began photographing nude models. As it would turn out, my first shoot was with adult industry starlet Madison Scott. Cute, fun, and drop-dead sexy, Madison shot beautifully . As we wrapped up our shoot, we talked about shooting again with her and another girl, Britney Brooks, who also worked in the adult industry.
Madison told Britney of my work, and less than two weeks later, she and I would shoot together. Like Madison before her, Britney was stunning. She and I also talked about the plan of the three of us shooting together, however, with both her and Madison living in other towns, scheduling was slightly cumbersome.
A couple of months passed, and the three of us were finally able to coordinate a time in the late Spring of that same year. The photos contained within this book represent the first of three sets from this photoshoot. The shots are presented in near chronological order. To date, this shoot remains one of my favorites, a photographic memoir of one perfect day. Britney and Madison both are beautiful and fun girls and the shoot went magnificently; they delivered exactly what I had wanted to convey in photos: a very sensual and playful scene of two girls on a bed, one beautiful morning in South Beach.
I really can’t stress enough how pleased I am with this. THIS is the art I wanted to shoot. This is the art I wanted to create. (In terms of models, at least.)
If so inclined, you you can click on the button/badge below and it’ll take you to blurb where you can order your very own copy.
The book is a large landscape print edition at 13″x11″ and is available with a photo wrapped cover or with a dust jacket. The price is $119.95 (for either cover).
Couple of notes:
There are a large number of photos within the book that will never see a digital screen beyond my own. That is, they’ll never be on the web. I was, honestly and embarrassingly, really proud of what we shot that day. And when I looked at the photos onscreen, I knew then that the vast majority of them would never see the web. I felt they deserved more. And the set of photos as a whole deserved more. So this book serves as a presentation, a collection of the whole, in a format which makes me happy. Did I mention being pleased?
That said, making the book complete naturally means that all previously released photos from this set (under forty) are contained within the book as well. Some of those photos can be viewed now under my Flickr account. For cohesiveness, I’m going to consolidate and republish all previously released photos as a preview set for the book here in the Girls of Ipanemic gallery.
Final note. Even though it’s taken two years to get here, I’m still releasing this earlier than I wanted. I had finished the book last summer when I arrived in LA after my cross-country trip. And when I looked at the possibility of writing a book about that trip, it made sense to release Girls on a Bed at the same time as a companion book. The material, while seemingly unrelated, provides a complementary picture to what I wanted to convey in Nomad’s Land. So I held off releasing it until the book about the trip was complete.
And then, of course, Nomad’s Land has taken much longer to complete than I had imagined.
So this is a sort of pre-release to that.
