Was pleased this morning to find that a fellow photographer has a new website. Tito Goya Photography.

Great local photographer. I've been a fan of his work since I found him on flickr a few months ago. Actually, his classic heel shots was, in part, the inspiration for me to do the same with Kesley a while back. Great photographer and I'm always excited to see what new stuff he's doing.

The case of the disappearing model

I was supposed to have a shoot this morning. Talked about it for a couple of weeks. Both of us very excited about the shoot. The last text message I got from her was "I wish!!!" in response to me texting her, asking if it was Wednesday yet. That was Saturday. She's nowhere to be found.

I don't know what happened. Don't know where she went. I have to say, I'm pretty bummed. I was more excited about today's shoot than just about any other shoot I've had scheduled. Not that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed every other shoot, but this one... this one I was really excited about. I had ideas. Concepts. And she would be perfect for all of it. I've been saving one element to shoot with specifically for her.

No text messages... no emails... just disappeared.

Well, at least I don't have to iron bed sheets today.

Still... I'm so bummed.

Two things:

1) I broke down and implemented a captcha. You know. One of those little security things that are supposed to keep bots from spamming your comments by having people type in some random code that appears. I thought about it and decided that, since I get about one comment a week (yay, friend of the week!), the one person commenting could probably handle the security code.

All the other safeguards are still in place to block other spam attacks. Now there's just this thing on top. Whatever. I hate those little things and now I have one on my own site.

2) A story that Penelope and I wrote together about her being crazy and me being right (in regards to her ludicrous claim that white men can't dance) was published on Miami Beach USA. Here's the handy link: Why Can't White Men Dance?.

Penelope is crazy, yo. Although, I like her description of me in the article:

white male in his 30s, artist, docile, and modest.

Docile? Really? For those who don't know the definition of docile, allow me:

Docile: from the latin word docilis.
a) Sexy.
b) See definition of Scott. Also see definition for Winner.

Used in a sentence: Calling Scott a sexy winner is redundant. Although there's no harm in it; he's quite modest and would never know it. Did I say winner? I meant wiener.

stupid spam

This is one of those days when my site is ticking me off again. Spam attacks. I have all these nifty little algorithms built in to ward off spam in the comments and, sooner or later, they find a way in again. And herein lies the fundamental problem with running this site.

I like changing the layout. I like interacting with people on this site. I HATE dealing with spam. It's days like these that seriously make me debate moving to wordpress or blogger or movabletype or something. You could leave a comment and give me your feedback except, oh, I turned off commenting for the time being! Ack!

Commenting is off indefinitely. I have other things to do right now.

Remember that thing last week where I was registering my kids for school?

One of them is in. As I type this, I'm sitting in the office of Miami Beach Senior High trying to find medical records of my oldest son. They are lost in the state of South Carolina.

If only this was ALL of the fun of school registration. The younger boy didn't actually make it to his first class yesterday until 2:30 in the afternoon after spending the day wrapping up getting his schedule (which has to be changed since he has two math classes) and his transportation set up.

This is fun. Wait, hold on. Let me see if I can get the right level of sarcasm.

THIS is the most fun ever. And if you don't believe me, just ask the older boy. He's having a blast. Because, so much moreso than parents, kids love sitting still for hours on end getting nothing accomplished.

My photo IS on the cover of this week's City Link Magazine! Available at newstands throughout South Florida.

I was a little confused. When I first saw the issue, I had to do a double-take like I said. It looked like my photo but it was attributed on the contents page to the other photographer, worm. It made sense that I thought he took it; the way the shoot went was: the model would pose, he'd take photos, then I'd take photos and we'd keep alternating. So the models would be in similar poses for both of us and we frequently were shooting the same angles. I just assumed that worm's style was similar to mine and that he probably got the same shot, from the same angle.

But then I looked through my photos tonight, and there it is. That's my photo!! Down to every wrinkle in the dress and position of the people in the water!

I'm kind of excited. It's the first time a photo of mine has been on the cover of anything.

Scott is happeh!

Took some photos last week as part of a shoot. Only a few. Another photographer, worm, and I shot the models. His photo's on the cover (I think - honestly, it looks identical to one of mine and I had to do a double-take when I saw it), mine are inside. City Link Magazine's Back-To-School edition, although they don't have the cover on the site. The the Up Front photo is one I took, also. Neat.

Worm's a nice guy. I like him.

Hot as hell the day of the shoot. Middle of the day. On the beach.

I think I'm reaching one. I don't know if I can keep ipanemic the way it is. I may have to run a separate site. Or just a different site. I don't know.

I think that I need to separate my multiple personalities into multiple sites. I had this idea a couple of years ago of running what I was calling an RGB site, with the three primary colors representing my current state. On any given day (or time of day), the site would be one of the three. Somehow. Or possibly allow the user the option of seeing whichever version they wanted. Take your pick of Scott. Red Scott, Green Scott, or Blue Scott. Only choose the one you want.

I'll bet rgb.com is taken. I would type it in, but I'm not that interested.

I just gotta keep it together. Keep it together. Keep it together. Not like that song where they tell you that you have to keep them separated. I need to do the opposite.

Current Mood via the mood-o-meter: mild stress mixed with anxiety mixed with AUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

But hey, at least... at least there are two other colors of me. And one of them is going to pop up any minute now. Any minute. Now.

The Model Shoots, the videos

Because I'm sitting on between 15-18 hours of unedited video from The Model Shoots (one MORE thing I have to catch up on), I've decided to at least put up the videos page. This is where publicly accessible videos from the shoots can always be found. Of course, I'll always announce a new video on the front page, but this way, they'll always be readily accessible.

There's a neat little link on the main menu there to take you to the videos. Right under Model Shoots.

Mixing it up, maybe a little help.

I've been going through photos from model shoots today. Christie, Anastasia, and then all the way back to Madison. And then, all of a sudden, I felt overwhelmed again.

Why overwhelmed? Let's take Madison as the classic example. During our shoot, I took 1,200+ photos. I've released 106 of those images into the her premium gallery with 10 of those going in today (along with other shots going into other premium galleries).

106. 106. Not even 10% of the photos taken of her! The problem is that 10% doesn't approach the number of photos I would like to release. I have such a good hit rate with shoots that there are easily, EASILY, 5-600 more of Madison I can get in. Not every model shoot has such a high hit rate, but I can promise you that at least 50% of my shots I would feel comfortable releasing.

Let's see... 50% of 55,000.... and I'm approaching having 1,000 released... carry the 1...

Shit.

And I have two more shoots this week. Repeat models.

I've decided to work like this: from now on, I'm going to, every day, release a few new photos from the later shoots. In addition, I'm going to go back through and update the older shoots, one by one, starting with Madison. Otherwise, I'm never going to catch up.

Plus, the thing is, I want to get caught up because, while Madison is beautiful and stunning and the shots are fantastic, I'm liking the work I'm doing these days a lot more. I'm finding my style, I think, and I'm enjoying the work I'm doing now. I need to get this to between 100-250 photos a week. Somehow.

55,000 is a long way to go. And by the end of this week, that number may break 60,000. That number will probably break 60,000. I HAVE to change my process. Or get an assistant. Anyone want to go through my shots, edit and release? Don't be a stranger, though. Be someone I know. Like personally. A friend. (I'm halfway kidding. Though not entirely.)

Weekend recap

I have mixed feelings about this weekend. Right now, I'm a little bit bummed. I was supposed to have a shoot today and the model contacted me to tell me she was sick. And I was really REALLY looking forward to shooting her again today. So we're rescheduled for Thursday and I'm trhilled because she's absolutely, absolutely beautiful and just... I love shooting her; she's fantastic in front of the camera and she's just fun. Still a little bummed the shoot fell through today. It's okay. I suppose.

But let's back up to Friday. Friday was the last day to register the kids for school, so naturally, that's the day I chose to do it. Apparently, everyone else chooses that day as well.. By the way, you know all those photos I post of South Beach Moms? Where it's some woman with legs for miles wearing six inch stilettos and some sexy outfit (normally reserved for either the poshest of clubs or strip joint) pushing a stroller? Apparently they have kids in middle school. And in high school, too. I saw them there. Anyway, kids are "kind of" registered. Alec's medical records are in between places so I've gotta finish that up Monday when I take him to school.

Friday night, the kids and I played tennis, then I went to Club O for the gallery showing. How did it go? Eh. Weird. Five artists on display and all of our stuff was up in the VIP area. And the show seemed to be a complete afterthought to everything else going on there. Swimwear. Samba. So the only people that saw my stuff were people paying for bottle service and then a few models.

It was kind of cool, though. My old neighbor Penelope came. We had some pizza beforehand. Then Ana and Trevor showed up. Then Alex showed up! So it was kind of cool. Oh, except for when I left that night, I left my card at the bar. After I got home that night, I realized what I had done. Check my bank account online and find a $209 charge from the club!! They ran my card on someone else's tab. That kind of sucked. I had to go Saturday to straighten that out.

But Saturday... Saturday was AWESOME! Shot Christie for the first time and that went amazingly well. Just all over the place. Christie is fantastically, phenomenally beautiful. Great, great shoot and I'm totally psyched about our next shoot already.

Overnight, I hit 750,000 views on my flickr account. Three quarters of a million. I thought it would be the end of the year before I hit a million views, but at this rate, it might not be. Goals, I has them.

It's Sunday now. And it was definitely a lazy Sunday. I got up early, lounged all day, and just woke up from a long nap. Kids went to the beach earlier and Zach said the waves were great. Maybe I'll go to the beach tomorrow. Tomorrow, when school starts.

Some of my artwork is going to be on display tonight at "O" Lounge on Lincoln. 9:30pm. It's a Photographic Gallery/Swimwear Fashion Show/Brazilian Samba Show.

I'm kind of excited. I dropped off the photos yesterday, and one of the guys in the office said, "Wow, THIS is hot and I'm gay!" That made me think that maybe it'll be okay, the shots I've chosen.

We'll see how it goes. I'm going to be there at 9pm. I'm kinda nervous, this being the first time I've had anything on display like this. It oughta be cool. Penelope's going to come with me. And Vanessa said she's going to come. So that'll be nice. If you want to come, that'd be neat, too. Really neat.

Look for the dork that's not smiling. Or drunk.

a note to patrons, models, and other peoples

Hi.

Some of you may have noticed that there has been a crapload of updates in the galleries today and last night. It's not new stuff, though. Some of it is stuff that I found in the regular galleries that I hadn't added into the premium galleries. There ARE new additions as well, just, there are a lot of photos that you've probably already seen.

I've finally devised a system for gallery additions. Every photo that I process will go into the Premium Galleries. Then a handful of those will go into the regular galleries and then onto flickr and social networking sites (facebook, myspace, etc).

I actually started this system a while back; I'm just getting around to cleaning up the galleries so that patrons and models don't have to go to both the Premium galleries and regular galleries to see everything.

various notes

Everything I do revolves around the net in one form or another. So I'm finding myself a little annoyed that I can't keep a steady connection over here in the new pad. I'm seriously considering getting a separate wireless connection in addition to this satellite situation just to have a backup.

In other news, I had a shoot today that I hadn't planned on doing. It was supposed to happen last Saturday but got rescheduled for today. Found out last night at 1:30ish. Maybe midnight. Can't remember.

That went well, got some great shots, but I don't know if any of my photos will be used. On the plus side, I got totally sunburned on the beach during the shoot as if I DIDN'T LIVE HERE!!! Racoon eyes on top of it. Loverly.

In other other news, I'm seriously catching up on photos. And I've been out of touch with some peoples. Vanessa, I've been meaning to email you but haven't gotten around to it yet. Email me when you get a chance. Because it's a long complicated email that I need to send you and I'm finding myself knocking out quick things right now, not long complicated emails.

Crap, I'll just send you a short one.

Anastasia, I'm a fan. A HUGE fan. And can't wait til the next shoot. Still just buttloads of photos to go through.

I have to decide on photos tonight, too. I've got two definites. Undecided on the other three. Have the frames. Oh, and thanks everyone who has given such helpful advice or notes or emails or comments. You've really given me some great, great feedback and it's much appreciated!!

Gallery showing, I need help. UPDATED (1 comment)

So there's this gallery showing/fashion show this weekend and I'm going to have some of my work on display there. Photos from The Model Shoots.

I'm to have four or five photos on display. The only thing is... I don't know which ones to use! They aren't going to be nudes. MAYBE implieds but I don't know. I kinda want to at least have them be lingerie shots at a minimum.

Definitely using one from this shoot with Anastasia. Definitely using one from the Lincoln Road/Espanola Way/Washington Ave shoot with Ana + Acacia. But then.... ?

If anyone has a suggestion or has a vote for a particular photo or a nomination for a particular set or series, let me know. I need to decide by Wednesday/Thursday at the latest so I can have time to get this done.

Update: I'm so lucky to have smart friends. Maria recommended that I try and narrow the selection for people so I created a nice set on flickr that has some of my favorites that I think would work. It's not all of my favorites, and it's only photos that I keep on flickr and not here. But it's a good starting point. Here's a link to it: Set on Flickr.

things i've learned recently

1) The intersection of 11th and Meridian is a busy intersection. At all hours of the day. And night. And day. And night. And day. And night.

2) Ambulances are really loud when they drive right by you as you sit on your patio.

3) All taxis speed. All taxis.

4) All taxis love to blow their horn if a car sits in front of them at a green light longer than 0.00001 seconds. All taxis blow their horn.

5) My windows block out almost ALL noise. Or maybe I'm just used to it.

6) When the doors are closed in my place, you can't hear what's going on in the other room.

7) The place I'm in was vacant for about 8-10 months before I moved into it. I hope that's because it was just waiting for me and not because there was a murder here before or, worse, GHOSTS! Nah, I'm just kidding. It was probably a suicide. From all the freakin' traffic driving some guy nuts! Then they installed thick windows.

8) Having bushes that you can kind of see through in your courtyard, but not really see through in your courtyard, is kind of annoying. "Who is that? What are they doing? What are they wearing? What language is that? Is that english? What are they saying? It's my business." (Cluttery bushes also make you deaf.) I'm becoming an eavesdropper on two-second dialogues that I can't hear. I've learned nothing from the everyday conversations of the peoples.

9) There is a lot of light in my bedroom at night when the lights are out. This doesn't bother me. I don't notice it.

10) Windex makes even the dirtiest of windows sparkly clean.

11) Getting rid of bars on windows makes a place look nice. Not so much ghetto. Although they WERE nice bars. Not so ghetto-y.

12) I will never be able to decide if I want to keep the bars on the windows in the den or not. I want them. I don't want them. I want them. I don't want them.

13) The laundry machine loves to eat quarters for no good reason. There is no trick I have learned to that. I guess this one should go on the list of "things I haven't learned recently."

14) I'm closer to Pita Spice on Washington. That makes me happeh.

15) Where did all these gnats come from outside? Or whatever the hell they are? I hope they aren't mosquitoes. Because that would suck.

16) I totally dig the new place.

17) The kids totally dig the new place.

18) I love having a courtyard right here.

19) I like the privacy of this place.

20) I like the activity of the street and the cars and the people around me. Not so much on the gnats. Or the ambulances.

A tour of my place, and a model shoot all rolled into one.

FINALLY, I have the first model shoot in the new place. Well, I guess I shouldn't say finally; I have, after all, only been here barely over a week. But both shoots from last weekend were canceled/rescheduled and two shoots this weekend got canceled/rescheduled. So it was a relief to finally break this place in and there was definitely no better model to break the place in than Anastasia. Holy hell. I'm sold.

Dazs called me today in fact and asked me if I had shot in here yet. I was happy to tell him the good news. It's like christening a ship, shooting in here. Kind of like in Caddyshack when they bust the bottle over the hull and then everyone falls into the water. And I did almost fall today. As usual. Numerous times.

So I'm happy. But seriously? I'm looking at the 2,500+ photos I took today of Anastasia and I'm wondering when the hell I'm going to get through all of them. Anastasia is just utterly and fantastically beautiful and shot amazingly.

Anyway, I decided to do something different as I add the photos up and use this shoot as sort of a tour of my new place. Here's the link to Anastasia's gallery. As with all shoots, I'll add photos up as I get to them. They won't all go up at once. But there's a good start with five or so shots up now.

"And here we have the den. If you look behind Anastasia's hip, you'll see this great electric guitar, and some frames I need to hang still. There's the rug. And that's the dining room just over Anastasia's left shoulder. Oh, and there's Anastasia, perfectly stunning in a red thong."

I am, without a doubt, a HUGE fan of Anastasia. It's funny; I really wasn't sure this shoot was ever going to happen and in fact, I told Anastasia today that I was pretty certain up until the moment I saw her standing on my doorstep that she was just a practical joke a friend of mine was playing on me and that she wasn't really real.

So I was more than pleasantly pleased for her to walk through the door this morning and thrilled for her to shoot here today. Great, great girl and funny as crap! And, obviously, just ridiculously beautiful.

Today was a good day.
